ECOCAMPUS se implica en el Proyecto de Huertos Cisnerianos.

Desde Ecocampus estamos promoviendo la participación de un grupo de alumnos para el trabajo en el huerto, o más bien para la creación de un huerto en la parcela cedida por el Jardín Botánico, contando con la ayuda de sus trabajadores. El grupo de alumnos voluntarios está liderado por dos estudiantes que realizan su asignatura de Prácticas Externas en Ecocampus: Jorge Astasio y Daniel Rodríguez.
Los procesos de participación, y de movilización del alumnado, con el fin de trabajar sobre la sensibilidad ambiental, son un objetivo fundamental de Ecocampus. Sin embargo la idea de que un grupo de alumnos voluntarios trabajen en el huerto no se queda ahí, sino que cumple un importante objetivo de promoción de la salud, promoviendo valores como el trabajo en equipo, el compañerismo, el desarrollo de un proyecto común, en el que se trata de decidir los cultivos, siendo conscientes de nuestro poder de decisión como consumidores.
Aunque la primera parte de este proyecto se ha realizado con alumnos del Grado en Ciencias Ambientales, queremos invitar a estudiantes de otras disciplinas que pudieran estar interesados. Desde Ecocampus ofrecemos a todos la posibilidad de participar… animándoos a colaborar en esta iniciativa tan interesante y constructiva!
La Oficina Ecocampus Alcalá se constituyó en marzo de 2003, como consecuencia de la aprobación del Programa de Calidad Ambiental, para canalizar las iniciativas ambientales de los universitarios, su participación, el análisis y solución de nuevos problemas. Actualmente hemos incorporado varias líneas temáticas más, en el paraguas de la responsabilidad social y la sostenibilidad, siguiendo las líneas de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible fijados por la ONU en 2015.
En esta iniciativa están trabajando 11 estudiantes de Ciencias Ambientales, con la ilusión y con las ganas de aprender de la agricultura ecológica, gracias a la ayuda de los hortelanos del Real Jardín Botánico Cesar y Ana que tienen una experiencia de más de 20 años en este tipo de ámbitos, y con la colaboración del director del mismo, Rosendo Elvira y el profesor de la UAH José Vicente de Lucio, ambos creadores del Proyecto de Innovación Docente Huertos Cisnerianos.
El colectivo de estudiantes comenzó a organizarse y elaborar los primeros trabajos de preparación del terreno a finales del mes de enero y hasta el día de hoy han trabajado muy duro para el acondicionamiento de la parcela y la realización de las primeras plantaciones.
En primer lugar se dedicaron, con la ayuda de los hortelanos, a mover el terreno con la ayuda de una motoazada, retiraron la mayor parte de las piedras y hierbas del terreno para proceder a la preparación de los primeros bancales del huerto, y abonaron el terreno con compost para aportar estructura y nutrientes al terreno del huerto.
En segundo lugar, comenzaron con la plantación en el propio terreno de una hilera de alcachofas, y dos más de chalotas. En el invernadero de túnel han realizado los semilleros de pimiento italiano, pimiento Quadiato d´Asti Giallo, tomate cherry, tomate negro de Crimea, tomate muchamiel, berenjena rayada, berenjena negra, tomate Raft, tabaco, tagetes, acelgas y lechugas. Próximamente quieren realizar plantaciones in situ de maíz de palomitas, calabacín, melón, patatas, sandía, puerros, pepinos, girasoles, guisantes y plantas aromáticas.
Como es normal en los cultivos ecológicos, sobre todo uno conducido por gente inexperta, han surgido algunos problemas, como el ataque de los conejos a nuestra plantación de alcachofas, solucionado con la puesta de un mallado y la presencia de un hongo en los semilleros de lechugas. Con todo ello, los alumnos reconocen que han aprendido de sus errores y esperan adaptarse rápidamente a este tipo de problemas vinculados a la agricultura ecológica.
Además, estamos pensando en comenzar a utilizar como abono el compost obtenido de los restos orgánicos de la cafetería del edificio de Ciencias Ambientales, que es de donde provienen los alumnos voluntarios. El proyecto de hacer compost con los restos de las cafeterías fue un proyecto pasado de Ecocampus que sin embargo tuvo que abandonarse… por eso creemos que ahora sería muy oportuno retomarlo para que se utilice para un proyecto concreto, y además a pequeña escala (cafetería del edificio de Ciencias Ambientales). Esto añadiría un matiz de soberanía, por así decirlo, al proyecto, abundando en la autosuficiencia del huerto. En concreto, obtendríamos los residuos orgánicos de la cafetería de la Facultad de Ciencias Ambientales además del aporte in situ de las malas hierbas extraídas de la propia parcela. Además se utilizará como fertilizante líquido ecológico, purín de ortigas, el cual ha sido elaborado por los alumnos desde su inicio, con la recogida de las ortigas, hasta su aplicación sobre los vegetales del huerto. Esperamos que con la elaboración del compost y el fertilizante natural nuestras plantas disfruten de los nutrientes necesarios para su correcto crecimiento y luzcan vigorosas desde su inicio hasta su recolección.
Ante todo, un proyecto en el que merece la pena trabajar con ilusión!
